Competence in one field does not necessarily generate confidence in another field, but a generally competent guy will be generally confident because he’s competent in a number of fields. That’s better wrt confidence with women than not being competent in other, unrelated fields.
I wonder, though, if a generally competent guy who is not socially slick is going to lose out every time. Keep in mind that the generally competent guy is bringing a lot to the table as it is.
IMO, the biggest issue with not being competent with women is not noticing an IOI, or at least an opportunity. First, missing it means…you missed. Additionally, it may function as a rejection, making the woman annoyed at the guy. “What am I, chopped liver?” Now, if it turns into, “I’ll show him….”, that would be handy, but that’s not what you want to count on.
Except…how does not being needy connect with or look like missing an IOI?
